EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Woodford provides a wide variety of activities and experiences to students beyond the traditional curriculum subjects.

Darwin Experience

Each year, our senior students are offered the unique opportunity to participate in the Darwin / Northern Territory Camp—an immersive learning experience that extends well beyond the classroom. A key focus of the camp is developing a deep understanding of Australia’s wartime history, particularly the Bombing of Darwin. Through visits to significant historical sites and museums, students explore the impact of this event on Australia’s northern defence and reflect on the resilience and courage demonstrated during this pivotal moment in our nation’s history. This firsthand learning strengthens students’ historical knowledge while fostering critical thinking and respectful reflection.

The camp also provides rich opportunities to engage with and learn from Aboriginal culture and Country throughout Darwin, Kakadu and Katherine. Students participate in guided cultural experiences, gaining insight into traditional practices, stories, land management and the enduring connection between people and place. By exploring the natural landscapes of Kakadu National Park and Katherine Gorge, students develop a greater appreciation of Australia’s environmental diversity and the significance of Aboriginal heritage. This camp is a transformative experience that promotes independence, cultural understanding, leadership and a broader perspective of Australia’s history and identity.
